[ that's — enough to sting. enough that dolph's features waver for a moment. then he steps back, moving the knife aside. ultimately, it is still not knives' decision. it's strange, facing this problem. long ago, vash left. he left for knives. and now he stays. he stays for dolph.
it feels like a role reversal. he's not wholly unsympathetic to it. ]
He wants to make his own choices. He'll never listen if you make them for him.
[For all his attempts at restraint, something in Knives' expression snaps, and he moves in a swift motion to attempt to plunge the dagger between Dolph's ribs.]
[They are absolutely not done, because Knives' free hand reaches for another blade at his belt to try to strike Dolph's shoulder or stomach -- anywhere to try to make him let go.]
[ his real hand is just as fast, grabbing that one too. dolph doesn't know what kind of power knives has and being stabbed isn't a huge detriment to him, but he doesn't know what kind of fallout they'd have to deal with. ]
[Knives drops the second blade and grabs Dolph by the arm. He may not have his plant abilities returned to him, but he's at least been practicing elemental magic, enough to cause ice to spread and freeze painfully across Dolph's skin so long as they maintain contact.]
[ is he just dumb? does knives not understand the ramifications of this? dolph's not a doormat. he should just break knives' wrists and call it a day. he's killed men for less.
but what would that achieve? how to get through to this man? so for now, dolph lets the ice spread. and he doesn't let go. ]
Get a fucking hold of yourself. Do you think you'll win by doing this? Do you think it'll end?
Power? [He laughs, spiteful, and the ice spreading across Dolph's skin begins to feel like countless cold needles piercing flesh as the frost takes hold.]
I've been powerless since the day you found me here. I have nothing.
[ but words are not cutting it. so dolph needs to deal with this. both his hands gripping knives' wrist clench down hard enough for bone to break. with that done, dolph moves away from that freezing touch. ]
[He hisses in pain, forced to both let go and fumble the dagger, crouching to try to grab it like he expects Dolph to come at him a second time. He can't move his right hand at all, though, and the left is almost as useless, so his options are limited.]
Not even you can keep him from reality forever, you disgusting corpse.

His choices would have him abandon our kind in order to cling to a cage. You yourself called it as much.

But what does it say about you that he'd choose this instead? What you're doing isn't working, Knives. The more you push, the more he'll run.
I'm not keeping him here. I never was. He's choosing me and that's what you can't abide.

but. dolph tightens his grip just a bit. ]
You don't have to be. I'm holding on.
Find a new power, Knives.

I don't need a new power. I'm taking back what's rightfully mine.

The only one who doesn't get reality is you. This shit you're pulling doesn't. Work. And blaming it on me isn't going to work either.
Now get the fuck out of my club.
