[ Honestly, how Vash knew about this place is probably a comedy of hearsay, he heard from someone else he's friends with who heard from someone else. That sort of thing. It's hard to miss it, considering the stark anachronism it happens to be—so it's not hard to find.
What's interesting, to him, is that it's Dolph's place, one way or another. So, in an effort to show interest in something someone he knows support, he's wandered in through the front door without much of a plan. It's not like anything he's experienced, and he kind of sticks out like a sore thumb, either from the way he's dressed or the fact that it's clearly obvious that this kind of thing isn't his usual hangout. He finds the bar and there, at least, he knows how to order a drink. He has it in his hand and is about to take a sip from it when he finally makes eye contact with who he's looking for. ]
Dolph! [ It's a little loud, if only to make sure he's heard. Or seen. One of the two. ]
[ dolph is manning the bar, cleaning glasses and keeping an eye on things. most people would find that kind of work tedious, but dolph finds it rather relaxing. he's never had the chance to do anything this normal. it's nice to hold onto. ]
[ Fancy seeing him here, huh? Vash laughs, his head tilting one way as he scoots over to sit at the bar opposite where Dolph is working. ]
It's not exactly my kind of thing. [ There's a pause as he places a hand down on the bar table ]
The music and dancing part. I'm used to saloons. [ He takes a sip from his drink before speaking again. ] I wanted to come see what it was about since I heard you were the one running it.
[ saloons. like in old westerns. makes sense with what livio told him about no man's land. dolph suppresses the pang in his heart. it still hurts to think about him. ]
I was in special military ops. This is just a bar.
[ a bar he fashioned to resemble prism. the bar where he met alex. it feels masochistic though to admit that. I made my bar look like the one where I met the love of my life who eventually betrayed me. the truth is, despite all that happened with alex, he's still grateful. grateful to have some of those experiences, the brief tangent of happiness.
dolph sets his glass aside. ]
Usually, since my staff aren't too familiar with them. Are you in the mood for one? It can be on the house.
[ He shifts in his seat to follow where Dolph's gaze is going before he turns back to look at the other man. There'sa moment where he's quiet and spends a few seconds watching Dolph in the dim club lighting. After a beat or two: ]
Are there a lot of places like this, where you're from?
[ he snorts lightly as he fixes up vash's whiskey. ]
Sort of. Eden loved capitalism so anything that made them money was good. But some places — gay bars and the like — weren't really allowed in the main city. Only in the seedy underbelly.
[ he remember how his hands shook when he went in for the first time. how alex grasped them quietly and said, you'll be all right, babe, just breathe. and it had opened his world.

It's nothing special. Just what I'm used to.

I don't know about that, Dolph. It takes a lot of hard work to run a saloon, I can only imagine this is even more complicated.
[ Give yourself more credit. There's a pause, next as vash leans on the bar, arms folded. ]
Do you serve drinks the whole time?

[ Well he can't argue with that. He still thinks it's a different kind of hard work. Still admirable.
He's had a drink so far, but he nods a little at the offer. ]Sure. But I'll pay, you don't have to give me anything for free.
I'm probably just going to hang out here, if that's okay. [ And after a moment he considers: ] I could lend a hand if you wanted.

[ he glances at the crowd. no one really pays attention to anyone else here. that's why he liked these places. ]
Sometimes, that's all anyone needs.
So what do you want? We got a little of everything.

I guess I just kind of missed this sort of place.
